Privacy Policy

KOREA ON CUE (“the site”, koreaoncue.com) takes your privacy seriously. The site is operated from Korea. This page explains what information the site collects, why, how long it is kept, and what you can ask us to do about it.

1. What we collect and why

The site has no accounts and no forms that ask for your name or contact details. Analytics and email information are described below; advertising information is described in section 5.

Information How Why
Visit statistics — pages viewed, time of visit, browser and device type, approximate region, how you arrived Cookies and scripts from Google Analytics (GA4, measurement ID G-7HE7Z9J99V) To see which stories are read, so we can improve them
Visit statistics (as above) Cookies and scripts from NAVER Analytics (site ID 1b054f489815fc0) To see how visitors arrive, including from Naver search
The content of emails you send us You write to contact@koreaoncue.com To answer you

GA4 processes IP addresses to estimate an approximate region; the original IP address is discarded after use and is not stored. We do not use these statistics to identify individuals.

NAVER Analytics counts visits in the way NAVER defines, and we do not use these statistics to identify individuals either. Visits by site editors signed in as administrators are excluded from NAVER Analytics.

2. Cookies

  • Analytics cookies (_ga, _ga_*) — set by Google Analytics to tell one visit from another. They last up to two years.
  • Login session cookies — created only when the site’s editors sign in to the admin area. Readers never receive them.
  • NAVER Analytics cookies — may be set by NAVER Analytics to count visits, in the way NAVER defines. Advertising cookies are explained in section 5.

On your first visit, Google Analytics and NAVER Analytics scripts are loaded only after you choose Allow analytics. Decline analytics prevents them from loading on subsequent page loads. Your choice is stored in this browser (koc_consent) and can be changed via “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page. Reload the page after changing your choice so that it applies to both services; scripts already loaded remain in the current page. Previously stored cookies may remain and can be deleted in your browser settings. These buttons control analytics, not AdSense advertising.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser and still read everything on the site. To opt out of Google Analytics alone, install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

To opt out of NAVER Analytics, block cookies in your browser or use a script blocker to stop wcs.pstatic.net. Blocking it does not limit your use of the site.

3. How long we keep it

  • Visit statistics: event-level data is deleted after 2 months and user-level data after 14 months, the retention periods set for our Google Analytics property. The 14-month period starts again when the same visitor returns. Aggregated report data is not subject to those periods.
  • Emails are deleted within a year of being answered, or, if the conversation continues, within a year of its last message.

4. Sharing and processors

We do not sell personal information. Data processing by analytics and advertising providers is described here and in section 5. Visit statistics are processed on our behalf by Google LLC (United States); the data is transferred to and stored on Google’s servers, which means it leaves the country you are in. Google’s own practices are described in the Google Privacy Policy. Visit statistics are also processed by NAVER Corp. (Republic of Korea); the data is transferred to and stored on NAVER’s servers. NAVER’s practices are described in the NAVER Privacy Policy.

5. Advertising

Google AdSense code loads when a public page opens, independently of the analytics choice in our banner, and may send advertising requests before you make that choice or after you decline analytics. Google may process information such as your IP address and use cookies or local storage for advertising. Non-personalised ads can still use cookies for frequency capping and aggregated reporting. Limited ads are a different serving mode and, depending on the settings, may use storage for fraud prevention. Neither means that no ad request is sent.

The site sends Google Consent Mode signals with ad_storage, ad_user_data and ad_personalization set to denied. These signals alone do not establish the actual AdSense serving mode or guarantee that all advertising cookies are blocked. Actual behaviour depends on Google settings, region, consent mechanisms and the browser. See Google’s explanations of non-personalised ads, limited ads and information use on partner sites. You can also use Google Ad Settings and your browser’s cookie controls.

6. Your rights

You may ask at any time to see, correct, delete, or stop the processing of information about you. Since the only information we hold directly is the email you sent us, write to contact@koreaoncue.com and we will act on your request promptly.

7. Children

The site is not directed at children under 14 and does not knowingly collect information from them.

8. Security

All traffic is encrypted over HTTPS, the admin area is restricted to authenticated editors, and the site software is kept up to date.
