All seven pins say Seongsu — and your legs walk 4.3km. How a first-timer should read the map's numbers.

The Cue
Maya’s map held seven pins. Pinch the screen out and they huddle inside what looks like a single block — a cafe next to an alley, a shop next to the alley, a park right there. The desk data of the full-day route tells a different story: just walking between those seven pins adds up to 4.3km, 67 minutes.
“If it’s all Seongsu, why am I walking this much?”
This piece is a way to read that number. What the map’s walking figures mean inside a real day — which legs stretch the day, and what to delete when the plan slips — checked one entry at a time, through a first-timer’s eyes. The Route Ledger
Open the route’s walking ledger and it starts light. Seongsu Station Exit 2 to the first stop: 109m, a 3-minute walk. Even lunch at Daelim Changgo to LCDC is 819m, 12 minutes. Up to here, the map’s impression holds: Seongsu is a neighbourhood you walk.
The back pages are the problem. Of the 4.3km / 67-minute total, about 72% sits in the last two legs — LCDC to Point of View at 1.3km (19 min), then Point of View to Seoul Forest at 1.8km (29 min). The walking isn’t spread evenly across the day; it stacks up in the afternoon. The longest walking sits late in the day — that is the first thing the map doesn’t show, and this piece’s creator test reads that timing as a fatigue risk.

The 19-Minute Problem
The judgment: look at a leg’s direction, not just its minutes. Nineteen minutes forward and nineteen minutes doubling back have different planning value.
Concretely: the 1.3km from LCDC to Point of View walks back west over ground you’ve already covered. On screen they’re neighbouring pins; on the ground it folds the day’s flow once — which is exactly why the route names this stop the first candidate to delete when energy runs low.
The move: find the backtracking leg on your own map before you go, and mark it. That leg is your day’s flexibility — nice to keep, safe to cut, and the route stands either way.
The 29-Minute Problem
The judgment: judge the longest leg by what you’re carrying, not by its minutes.
Concretely: Point of View to Seoul Forest, 1.8km / 29 minutes, is the longest walk of the route. The issue isn’t the length — it’s the timing. This leg comes after the select-shop circuit — if you’ve shopped, you meet it with bags in hand. Twenty-nine minutes in the morning and twenty-nine minutes with bags in hand are different units.
The move: keep purchases light, or if the load has grown, use the route’s variation rule — skip Point of View and head straight for Seoul Forest. The last two stops, Seoul Forest and the footbridge, are the day’s conclusion and worth protecting.
Hands, Bags, Shoes
The judgment: three variables the map never shows — hands, bags, shoes — set the real value of every walking number.
Concretely: navigation claims one hand for the phone. An umbrella takes another. Add shopping bags and the free hands shrink — carrying weight enters every moving decision. Shoes go deeper: how long shoes actually last is something desk data does not answer — this piece sets the 4.3km total and the 1.8km longest leg as the planning basis for choosing them. The Attention Ledger
The judgment: the second cost the map’s numbers don’t count is attention — the day is spent not only in walking minutes but in checking minutes.
Concretely: this simulation assumes navigation checks repeat on a first visit, and books those checks, signal waits and crossings as a separate attention cost layered onto the movement numbers. It assumes stretches walked while checking a phone can run slower than the routed value — how much slower is a field-visit measurement. For a return visit it assumes map checks may become less frequent, though that difference has not been measured. In other words, this ledger’s numbers should be read as “4.3km for someone walking it for the first time.”
The move: which legs actually draw the most map checks stays a field-visit item — for now, give the doubling-back leg and the longest leg extra time slack. And prepare by pre-checking the next stop’s name and direction — whether that actually cuts phone checks gets measured on the field visit.
The Delete-One-Stop Test
The judgment: decide what you’d delete before you leave, not in the middle of a slipping afternoon.
Concretely: this route pre-names its first deletion — Point of View, the stop that creates the backtrack. For reference, its last entry is 19:55 with a last-Monday closure, so it cannot be pushed back indefinitely. Rain isn’t a deletion but an axis switch: the route carries an indoor branch that trims the alleys and the footbridge and extends Daelim Changgo and LCDC instead.
The move: pick your one “if I must cut, it’s this” stop before you go, and read the indoor branch in advance. A decision made early turns a delay into a fork, not an accident.

Reality Check
This ledger is a desk check built on map data; only the movement judgments are a creator test (simulation). Map estimates are not measurements of your actual signal waits, pace, or photo stops — which is why the route says to plan with 67 minutes as the base moving value plus a separate margin.
What remains unverified stays on the record — real per-leg times, felt slopes, how often the lights stop you, how much shopping bags actually slow you down, per-leg map-check counts and how phone checks affect real moving time. All of it sits in the field-note queue, and as each is measured on the ground, the matching line in this ledger gets replaced.
After the Cut
Map scale shrinks distance; the scale of a day is set by your legs and your load. If this is your first visit, don’t count pins — count legs. The backtracking one and the longest one, between them, decide the shape of your day.
